Welcome to the third io9 music smackdown! We're putting together the ultimate science fiction (and fantasy) playlist - all the music that every self-respecting fan should have on his or her iPod.
Today, we're focusing on the pop songs that appeared in our favorite science fiction and fantasy shows and movies. What's your favorite pop-music moment? Which would you rather have in your ultimate science fiction playlist: Star Trek: First Contact's "Magic Carpet Ride," or "Sabotage" from the most recent Trek?
Here are the rules for this particular playlist: It's gotta be a song with lyrics. We mixed in some original written-for-movie pop tracks with classics. It also has to be from a television show or a film. We tried to include the best of the best, but some will always fall through the cracks — so if we forgot one (and you really think it's worthy of the coveted spot on the ultimate playlist) please put it in the comments. The poll is at the bottom of the post.
Remember: you can vote for up to four items.
