Despite all the har-haring about Summer Glau's guest spot, Syfy's summer drama Alphas was picked up for a second season.

After overcoming a slow start and unenviably X-Men comparisons, Alphas has proved to be a fun superhuman procedural with enjoyable character moments, most of which are provided by David Strathairn's hippy-dippy team leader and Ryan Cartwright's autistic savant who can see electromagnetic signals. Good on Syfy for allowing Alphas to flesh out its mythology further.
