For her video project In Ictu Oculi, artist Greta Alfaro set a table with a lovely dinner in the middle of nowhere and waited. What was she waiting for? Why, for a ravenous flock of several dozen carrion birds to drop by for a snack, of course. This meal goes from amusing to terrifying in under two minutes.
Here's Alfaro's artistic mission statement:
I work about the hidden and the unexpected. We live our lives governed by rules created in order to control chaos and vulnerability, but I am interested in the facts we try to hide or repress, in the differences between the private and the public, in the visibility of our everyday life hypocrisy.
And you know what's the most chaotic facet of this whole tableau? Those birds totally dined and dashed.
