Remember Dwayne Johnson's sad adaptation of the first-person shooter game Doom? Well Hollywood isn't about to let that terrible franchise die out, like other 90s fads. In fact, Universal wants to reboot the Doom movie series — in 3D.
What's Playing is reporting that Universal is trying to push forward a $150 million 3D remake of Doom. If true, this report makes us sad for two reasons. One, because that's a lot of money to film garbage with, especially for a studio that just passed on Guillermo del Toro's At the Mountains of Madness because of budgetary concerns. And two, in Hollywood years, Doom is 1,000 years old, so the idea of remaking it seems pretty dated.
Hopefully all of these speculations are just that, speculations — because it would be heartbreaking to find out that Hollywood passed up on making del Toro's Lovecraft story, just to adapt a 90s computer game for the second time.
