Want to know who all those dapper Asgardians are in the new Thor trailer? Here's our breakdown of the trailer, complete with character descriptions and plot theories. Spoilers on!

The opening shot is of the SHIELD base Thor's being held. Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg, reprising his role from Iron Man 2) is interrogating Thor and asking him where he learned his fantastic fighting skills.

The next shot is of Thor beating the tar out of some unlucky hospital orderlies. This scene is reminiscent of a sequence in Ultimates 2 in which Loki convinces Thor he's simply a mentally ill human.

A shot of Chris Hemsworth as Thor. His earthbound look is very Ultimate Thor.

Cut to Asgard. It's very Jack Kirby. But where's the shopping center?

The hall of Asgard. Sounds like Odin is lecturing Thor about something. You can see the Asgardian warriors stomping around in their fancy helmets.

Cut to Thor, Sif, and the Warriors Three going a-hunting for Frost Giants. Sounds like this little adventure was bad for Asgardian-Frost Giant diplomacy. Here's Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Thor's occasional inamorata in the comics.

A shot of Tadanobu Asano as Hogun the Grim, the most taciturn of the Warriors Three.

Ooh, frost giants.

Here's Sir Anthony Hopkins as Odin, reaming out his son for that frost giant escapade.

Here's Idris Elba as Heimdall, the all-seeing sentry of the Rainbow Bridge. The movie's depicting a racially diverse Asgard that has hyper-advanced science-magic at its disposal. It's less Norse mythology, more craziness from the Silver Age of Comics.

Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Odin's adopted son. He's part frost giant, which could explain his later beef with Thor.

Sif and Rene Russo as Frigga, Odin's wife.

For his rambunctiousness, Odin takes the hammer Mjolnir from Thor, dissolves his natty chain mail (which is his current look in the comics), and condemns him to Midgard (a.k.a. Earth).

Thor lands on Earth next to a sigil, and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) discovers him.

Jane is a nurse/doctor in comic book continuity, but here she's portrayed as a scientist (under SHIELD's employ perhaps).

Thor is staying in the shade to avoid burning his delicate Norse complexion.

Looks like Sif and the Warriors Three follow Thor to Earth. In the background you can see the dashing Fandral (Joshua Dallas) and the rotund Volstagg (Ray Stevenson).

Loki eyeing up what appears to be Odin's spear, Gungnir, which can match the power of Mjolnir. I'm sensing a coup here.

The Destroyer, a nigh unstoppable Asgardian death engine, lands on Earth. It can shoot flames and drain the life force of those around it.

A flashback to Thor clobbering a frost giant with Mjolnir.

Mjolnir has landed on Earth, and it looks like Thor must prove himself worthy to wield it.

The Wire would be a million times better if Stringer Bell dressed like this.

Romantic subplot!

A battle between Thor and Loki, who's wearing his trademark stylistically bankrupt horned helmet.

Really? What a rutting development.
