General Guan Yu was a brilliant military commander during China's Three Kingdoms era, immortalized in the epic Romance Of The Three Kingdoms. And now he's an Autobot too, thanks to Chinese student Bi Heng's $40,000 sculpture.
The statue of Guan Yu, made from the remains of a 25-year-old military service truck from the People's Liberation Army, weighs 4 tons and is about 32 feet tall. The sculptor, Bi Heng, is a student at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and created the sculpture as his graduation project. He's an amazing blend of Chinese history, pop culture and Communism's utilitarian aesthetic. Here's another picture of the general in action:
