Get ready to dive head first into the vast future-space-verse of role-playing video game Mass Effect - just be careful you don't get space herpes. Legendary pictures is readying a Mass Effect film, featuring Shepard and the SSV Normandy crew.
THR is reporting that Legendary Pictures has purchased the rights to Mass Effect, and the project is early in development. We can't wait to see some of the other-worldly concept designs. Plus Warner Brothers will also co-finance and distribute worldwide. Mark Protosevich, of Thor and I Am Legend, may be the screenwriter tasked with bringing this diverse future space world to live. The picture will be produced by Avi and Ari Arad, Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni.
ME first hit the streets in 2008, and the game takes place in the year 2183. The main character is the bad-ass Commander Shepard, who commands the SSV Normandy and his alien crew. Just about all of this film will take place in the big black, no doubt. But we're really curious as to how many of the different aliens Shepard encounters will be Avatar-ized?
I've played so much ME2, my dreams are filled with female computer voices whispering "probe launched." But more importantly we hope this ushers along Bioshock, Fallout and Halo big screen movies.
