You might have thought that George Lucas sold Star Wars down the river with the introduction of the Ewoks way back in 1983. But the latest toy development from a galaxy far, far away will make you wonder just how many of your childhood fantasies can be defiled at once. That's right: Star Wars Muppets are on the horizon. And they've got the roles wrong.
According to Wizard Universe, the second wave of Disney/Star Wars toys won't just include a special Mickey Mouse-as-Indiana Jones figure, but also an entire range of Jim Henson creations dressed in Lucas garb:
The Muppets will finally get their Star Wars mash-up figures in early July, as a boxed set of six: Beaker as C-3PO, Rizzo as Yoda, Fozzie as Chewbacca, Gonzo as Darth Vader, Kermit as Luke and Miss Piggy as Leia.
Listen, I'm all for Fozzie being Chewbacca, and I'm pretty sure that Gonzo has historical basis for being Darth Vader... but what's with Rizzo being Yoda. Rizzo? Seriously? That little rat? Everyone who grew up watching The Muppet Show knows as well as I do that only one muppet truly has the inner serenity to pull off the Yod-meister, and it definitely isn't Rizzo, no matter how good he was in that Christmas movie with Michael Caine. And so, to everyone at Disney and Lucasfilm, I ask you now, while you can still make this change: It's got to be Scooter. You know I'm right. Just close your eyes... and imagine.
