The novel that inspired a kick-ass video game is finally getting its own movie version. The Russians are creating a movie version of Hard To Be A God, in which human super-spies mess around with primitive aliens. As in the video game visitors from Earth's future travel to a humanioid planet that is stuck in the middle ages and blow them all away with their futuristic technology. But instead of the brightly colored game version, it's going to be a gritty look into the dark ages, filmed in black and white and featuring in-your-face scenes of capital punishment. Both video game and movie are based on the 1964 Russian scifi novel Hard to be a God by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. In the novel, Earth has moves forward into the future, while Arkanar is stuck in the middle ages. Earth sends over spies to check up on our once-foes on Arkanar. If I could visit Arkanar as a future Earthling would make my fortune writing national anthems for different kingdoms that were basically just re-written Britney Spears songs.
